Â鶹ÊÓƵ Student Receives Grainger Scholarship

Prosperity resident Troy Lawson, an industrial electronics technology and mechatronics technology student at Â鶹ÊÓƵ, has been awarded $2000 from The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship Program. Each year, Grainger works with the American Association of Community Colleges to offer 250 scholarships of $2,000 each at 125 community colleges in the United States.

“Receiving this scholarship was a tremendous honor, Lawson said. “It’s going to help me finish my degree so I can go into the field.

Half of the scholarships offered are earmarked for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Lawson spent 30 years in the U.S. Army before retiring as a sergeant major. The mechatronics field and the demand for trained technicians interested him. He is on track to graduate from the program in May.

Grainger provides custom Westward® toolkits to program recipients who complete their degrees, a meaningful incentive for students to finish school. Many employers require skilled workers to bring their own tools to work, so the toolkits help prepare graduates to launch a successful career in their chosen field.

“I’m thankful that Grainger selected me and provided me with the funds to complete my education, Lawson said. “It’s great that there are industries out there that are willing to support up and coming students and future employees in the field.
